Painterly Effervescence
An exhibition of recent work by David Knight

New work from Lewis based artist David Knight. Painterly Effervescence at The Byre.

The paintings in this exhibition focus heavily on the manipulation of paint. Whilst the Isle of Lewis coastal landscape is the subject matter it is the abstract behaviour, and interaction of paint itself, that acts as a metaphor for the coast. The application, layering, scraping, pouring, bleeding, brush strokes, of paint combine to form the language within these paintings. Tidal surges and swells, glimmers of light reflected in the sea and sky, weathered rock surfaces, the powerful winds and harsh weather are all suggested within these abstract paintings, Ultimately the aim is to embrace the dynamic coastal energy which is particular raw during the winter months in the Outer Hebrides.
