My music is the music of your stones.

Developing from an earlier work exibited at 40:40 (An Lanntair) Mary's new work for her first solo show on the island, and on Lewis, since 2014 explores themes from the poem 'Lewis' by Iain Crichton Smith.  

Mary’s work is informed by Geopoetics, a theory and practice developed by Scottish poet Kenneth White and is about expressing the earth through creative processes.

Uinneag (Window)
Uinneag presents work by five female artists from across Scotland, all of whom are inspired by place and the Gaelic way of seeing.

Brought together by Reothart nan Ealain's Màiri Gillies, they have continued to develop their own practices whilst exploring together, as a unique group, how they view and exist in the world.

Each of the artists have interpreted and expressed the theme of Uinneag (window) in their own way. All five are at various stages of their artistic journeys but have a common understanding and framework which underpins the development of work for this exhibition.

New work from Ishbel Murray exploring the contrived or orderly aspect of nature in public spaces through highly coloured landscape work and restricted palate small still life work.

New work from Ishbel Murray including highly coloured landscape images with a focus on the contrived or orderly aspect of nature in public spaces and small still life images repeating the use of familiar objects with a restricted palate that balance horizontal and vertical shapes. Her working title uses the Gaelic word 'Faileas'  to sum up what the artist was thinking during this creative period. As with many words from the Gaelic language, the word has a broader interpretation than just ‘reflection’.
